Dinner!

Roy cooking dinner for us last Saturday night on an old three burner Coleman stove my dad gave to us about 15 years ago (it works great!) and we had a wonderful time camping at Potato Patch above Jerome, Arizona. If you have not yet visited Jerome you should definitely go it is an old mining town hanging half off the mountain, and be sure to visit the Haunted Hamburger which is a famously delicious place to eat. Potato Patch is a lot cooler than the valley at about 7,000 feet and the pine trees smell so good, Marissa loves to listen to the sound of the wind moving through the trees. Did I mention that Roy makes the best food ever and we are all terribly spoiled?

new poem from Roy

A lonely erruption of ice and snow breaks forth from the landscape

a harrowing sillouette in eternal twilight

A lonely king sits upon his icy throne

left to die, trapped in the majesty of his frozen palace

he delights only in the stasis of the memories that surround him

ever present, permanently lost to devastating cold

the cruel irony of a timeless treasure

satan the deciever promised the king

that his reign would remain

a permanent fixture and a perfect preserve

of the king's power

majesty

and love

this fearful ruler

welcomed a devil's bargain

to escape the bitterness

of death and loss

all that remains, is everything

nothing is lost

save for the king

triumphant and swallowed by the horde of his own glory

Walk after dinner

Roy took me for a walk after dinner and according to my cell phone it was 107 degrees out and it felt hot, we didn't walk much farther than to the mailbox and back home.  Children were riding bikes despite the heat from the black asphalt and the cement sidewalks, sprinklers were watering the few grass lawns and rabbits from the wash were getting a wet bite to eat.  The sunset was great, lots of pink in the sky tonight!

a birthday present from Roy

Roy wrote an awesome poem for my Birthday!

Death is Defeated

Black and bleak the sky is grey

The mountains stark against the sky

A dragon appears, terrible and menacing, wings extended in the sky

A gaping maw, a noise so thunderous and deafening the heavens crumble and collapse

all that is left is the mountain, the void, and the menace

who is left unhindered

who can hold their bleeding heart and gather the air to whisper a word of hope

who knows the courage

who dwells in the absence of terror and knows no fear

when all is expunged

and all is crushed

the world demolished

loaded with words from the dragon

knowledge, memory, truth, and terror

is the arsenal of the dragon slayer

a swift and savage killing blow

rendered death unto our foe

burgeoning with the light of life

to supplant the darkness, to end the strife

A Brilliance flourishes that quenches thirst

pools at our feet, and hopes for the first

first hope

first flower

first dream

the image of beauty we all create when happiness bursts forth

from the laughter of victory

a cold day in February

Hey Alyssa!

Look at the damage on the Ficus tree from the cold, and ice on the back porch at 2:00 in the afternoon!  Wow!  Bet Hawaii is balmy and sunny, love, - Mom
